A complying development certificate, or CDC, is a fast-tracked approval process that is issued by an accredited private certifier rather than the local council for developments that are generally straightforward in nature.

A construction certificate, or CC, is issued by a private certifier or a consent authority, i.e. local council. This certificate confirms that the construction plans and specifications of the build are coherent and comply with Building Codes and council requirements. Before any building work is commenced, a construction certificate is required.

A development application, or DA, is a formal request submitted to the local council for permission to carry out a certain development.

A Basix certificate is a mandatory tool introduced by the NSW Government which assesses energy and water efficiency. All new residential buildings are required to go through a Basix assessment in order to receive a Basix Certificate. In general, a Basix assessment assesses whether the new residential building can withstand the cold in the winter, and the heat in the summer cutting down greenhouse gases and water consumption.
The estimated time for applications to be approved is usually within 4-6 weeks of submission. This timeframe varies depending on the type of development.
